How to Save Vanra From Auntie Ethel in Baldur’s Gate 3?

To start the quest of saving Vanra in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to first find Vanra’s Mother Lora in the game. You can find her at the Basilisk Gate Barracks which is located to the east of the Basilisk Gate Waypoint. There, you’ll encounter Lora arguing with the Commander of the Flaming Fist. Speak with her to learn about Vanra and her whereabouts. You’ll then come to know that she has been kidnapped from the Blushing Mermaid establishment which is located far west in the Lower City.

To find the Blushing Mermaid in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to head to the coordinates X-131, Y-96. There, you’ll find this huge ship-like structure which is located to the west of the Lower City Central Wall waypoint. Upon reaching there, you’ll need to speak to Bosun Gannet about Vanra and then he’ll point you to speak with Captain Grizly about the situation.
When you reach her, don’t believe everything she says as she claims that Vanra doesn’t even exist and Lora is lying about having a daughter. It will be better if you refuse everything about murdering Lora and force Grizly to dispel her disguise and reveal her true identity, i.e., Auntie Ethel.

Auntie Ethel claims that she has eaten Vanra and is pregnant with the child. So, it would not be a good idea to kill her because it would harm Vanra as well. So, in order to kill Ethel without harming Vanra, you’ll need to meet up with Mayrina who is located to the southeast of the establishment.

You can find Mayrina who is located on the top floor of the Old Garlow’s Place where she is cursed and turned into a sheep. Fortunately, if you have a wizard in your party member then it will be easy enough to lift the spell by casting the Remove Curse spell on the Voodoo Doll. Once she is cured, she’ll let you know that it was a dragonborn survivor Jalto who hexed her. Next, you’ll need to fight and defeat Jalto quickly and then return back to Mayrina to learn about the recipe of Hag’s Bane. You can find it inside a wall safe in a room below.
Make the Hag’s Bane

Now, open your Alchemical Solution Tab and select the Hag’s Bane under the grenades section. Craft the recipe that requires one Dried Fey Flower and one Essence to make the Grenade, When you have successfully made the grenade, once again head back to Blushing Mermaid and move toward Auntie Ethel’s Lair.

Once you have got inside the Lair, you’ll encounter many enemies at that location and fight your way out of it. Head through the wooden wall to find Auntie Ethel. Once you’re inside the fight automatically start. As you fight through the battle, you’ll need to throw the Hag’s Bane grenade while she’s standing still. Once you have thrown the grenade, you’ll see that Ethel vomits Vanra out and you’ll need to save the child. After defeating Ethel, head to Lora’s Home to interact with Vanra.

As you enter the house, speak with Lora and state about the Hag’s Plan. She will then thank you and reward you with Duellist’s Prerogative Rapier and Amulet of Windrider.
Save Vanra without using Hag’s Bane
You can also save Vanra without using the Hag’s Bane on Auntie Ethel. When you have first encountered Ethel, you can activate your Non-Lethal option under the Passives and lower her health by using the usual fight mechanics. If you’re successful, then she would be left in one health and will be in an Unconscious state. When you click on her after the battle ends, you will be given a prompt to cut open her stomach.

Clicking on the prompt will allow you to kill Ethel and save Vanra in the process. Next, just head back to Lora and collect your rewards.
