Age of Wonders 4 is a popular 4X fantasy game that features an extensive underground layer. The Players can uncover hidden treasures and free cities by excavating through the underground map. However, excavation is not available to all factions at the beginning of the game. In this guide, we will discuss how the Players can dig and Excavate with any faction in underground.

How to Dig and Excavate?
The Players need to Follow these simple steps –
Step l – Unlocking Excavation for Any Faction:
The Players can spend the Imperium resource on the Empire Development screen to customize their faction abilities. The “General” tree trunk combines all affinity scores and provides access to general abilities, including Excavation. Another way to obtain excavation is to start the game with a race that has the Mind Trait called Underground Adaptation.
Step ll – Digging Underground:
Once the Players enter the underground map, they will encounter various province types. Some are pre-cleared, while others contain underground rivers or magma flows, solid rock, or dirt. Factions with Underground Adaptation can start on this map, but others must find an entrance on the surface.
To excavate, the Players need to click on the shovel icon next to the unit portraits and select the province they want to dig. Any unit can excavate, but it is recommended to avoid splitting the army too much to prevent units from being attacked by aggressive monsters that can be revealed during the excavation process.
