These enemies are powerful as they can inflict burning status effects and deal powerful strikes. The Players should familiarise themselves with the enemies found in the area, which will be beneficial for them. They can learn more about the enemies, how to defeat them and what kind of enemies they will be facing.
Once players have a good grasp on what they learned, they can start looking for the lair, the Great Library. There the Players will find the Librarian along with groups of fanatics. The Players need to be cautious on which path they choose. While looking for the Great Library there is a chance that they will miss it as it is randomly generated. To ensure the finding of the lair, the Players should locate a Watchtower or use a Tracker’s Map.
There are three stages of lair, the Players will face the librarian in the third stage. And in the other first two stages they will face groups of fanatics. So the Players need to make sure to stock up on items and trinkets. So that they can easily defeat all the foes on all the stages of the Great Library.
How to Defeat the Librarian?
In Darkest Dungeon 2, the Librarian is one of the toughest bosses. The Players need to be careful or they will be quickly overwhelmed by the burning damage inflicted by the boss.
The Librarian at the start of the fight will spawn with three stacks of books, from which the boss draws energy. The Players might think of attacking the books but that will be a huge mistake, because it will make the boss more dangerous. So instead of attacking the books the Players should focus on taking the boss down as quickly as possible.
But doing that might not be easy because the boss stays behind all three stacks of books. So the Players can hit the boss with ranged attacks only, but if they defeat the 3rd row book they can hit the boss with melee attacks. Defeating the 3rd row book will reposition the boss from 4th row to 3rd row.
Although even if the boss has all his books active he still can’t deal much damage through normal attacks. The Librarian mainly deals high damage through stacking the inflicted burn status which the Players can get rid of by using cleanse abilities. And the worst thing is that, when the boss draws energy from the Books the characters will lose stress levels witnessing it, which can overwhelm the party and can cause a meltdown.
The Players should not drag the fight for too long. If the books disappear or get eliminated, a powerful attack will be unleashed by the boss during each turn. Which have enough power to quickly wipe out the party.
Some tips to defeat the librarian:
- Approach the battle with speed and efficiency.
- Having high Burn resistance is a must, to lower the damage from Burn Status which is the primary attack of the Librarian.
- The Librarian is weak against Blight, stacking this ailment can deal high damage.
- Burn status can be cleansed as well, for that the Players need to take Paracelsus in the fight. This character has the ability, Battlefield Medicine which can cleanse the burn status. But it can be used 3 times per fight so the Players need to watch out for that.
- Paracelsus also has the ability, Ounce of Prevention, which stacks burn resistance for the whole party. Upgrading it unlocks spammable Stress Heal, which can heal the whole party.
