Finally, Apple has considered shifting to 8GB RAM options for the up-coming iPhone Line-up.
Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Tech, Johny Srouji recently confirmed that the latest line up of iPhone 16, including all models, will come with a whooping 8 Gigabytes of RAM. The source is an interview with Geekerwan, a Chinese YouTuber.

This was very likely to happen, considering Apple’s plan with its new AI features, which reportedly requires a huge chunk of memory to run; this is the reason we don’t get to see AI functions in previous iPhone 15 models, as it only comes with 6GB of RAM.
What Apple Has To Say?
However, Apple did mention specifically that Apple Intelligence is one of the key factors why they’ve considered upgrading the RAM. But, it is notable that it will give your device a significant boost, with the memory to run almost anything, let it be rendering AAA games to other graphic intensive tasks.
Srouji went on to say, “We have extensive data on what enables certain features, and Apple Intelligence is a crucial feature that we wanted to support,”
he further added, “We evaluate different configurations for computation, memory bandwidth, and capacity to ensure the best performance. Apple Intelligence was a key factor in our decision to increase the RAM to 8GB.”
This could turn out to be the best hardware upgrade that apple has considered, also, for game enthusiasts, you don’t really have to switch to a big chunky Android Gaming phone if gaming is your passion, instead you may want to just upgrade your iPhone, if you’re an iOS user and feel really lazy to switch your daily device just for the sake of gaming, just like the author.
Not to forget, Apple recently announced a few AAA game titles, such as Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage; both of these titles would be playable on even base iPhone 16 models, with premium gaming features such as Ray Tracing, thanks to the highly-capable A18 chip.
Our Opinion
Although we are confident about iOS, considering how well optimized it is, there’s always room for issues, will it affect battery backup? or any similar performance related problem? We can’t ignore the issues which came up with many iPhone 12 and 13 models regarding battery health and backup. While it is not a common problem for every upcoming device, something that we should always consider when it comes to tech is, significant new upgrades have often, if not always caused issues. With that said, we are yet to find out how well the new devices perform in real life.
