Are you getting less than usual battery backup on your iPhone? There could be many reasons for low battery backup, including battery wear & tear, and unnecessary settings which are turned on by default. And unlike Android, ios is quite basic, and hence it misses out on many battery-friendly features. However, you can still tweak a few settings. Here are some simple tips and tricks which could get you additional 3 hours of screen time.
1. Turn on Low power mode.
The low power mode is similar to the power saving mode, found in android devices. When the mode is enabled, you will notice a shorter screen out time, with reduced brightness (which you can increase manually) and a yellow color-filled battery icon. Unlike Android, you won’t notice any type of performance drop even when your device is in low-power mode. These processors are powerful enough to deliver a lag-free user experience, even when underclocked.
Here’s how to do it!
- Navigate to settings.
- Search and click on Battery.
- Click on Low Power mode and it’s done.
2. Disable icloud Sync in mobile network.
iCloud Sync is turned on by default, it could be a major reason for battery drain, as uploads and downloads keep running in the background. You can set to iCloud backup when connected to a Wi-Fi network, as mobile networks consume a lot of data, as well as battery.
Here’s how to disable it.
- Go to settings
- Then mobile data
- Scroll down until you see, iCloud Drive. Make sure you disable it.
3. Make sure you are on the latest ios version.
Apple releases software updates for its devices. These updates include bug fixes, performance fixes, and also battery improvements. Make sure you are on the latest firmware to ensure to get the best experience out of the OS.
Here’s how to check for updates.
- Go to settings
- Scroll down and go to general
- Then press, software update.
4. Keep your recent apps updated.
The apps which you use the most are your recent apps, it could be social, photography, gaming, etc. Keeping your recent apps updated ensures that your apps don’t drain your battery.
Here’s how to do it.
- Open App Store
- Tap on your account picture
- Then scroll down until your see your installed apps.
- Make sure you update the ones that you use daily.
5. Turn off iphone True Tone display.
True Tone feature can be found in the display and brightness tab. This feature is enabled by default, it adjusts the screen brightness automatically according to the environment and lightning outside with the help of sensors. This feature sometimes can be a battery drainer as it keeps using your phone’s sensor.
Here’s how to disable it.
- Go to settings
- Tap ‘Display & Brightness’
- Then toggle off True Tone
6. Limit apps for Background refresh.
Navigate to Settings>General>Background App Refresh
Or turn it off by following the steps mentioned below.
- Open settings
- Go to general
- And there you’ll find ‘Background App Refresh’
- Tap on it and select off or select Wi-Fi.
Or it can also be customized specifically for each app based on your usage.
7. Turn off your location.
Your device constantly uses your GPS sensor by default. This sensor is used by IOS and background apps for location services. This could drain your battery, even if it requires minimal resources to function. If you are away from your adapter/power bank, and you need your device to last a day then consider turning the location off. Below are the steps to turn it off.
- Open settings
- Scroll down to privacy
- Then tap on location services
- And just disable location services, whenever you want to access location service, you can enable it from here as well.
8. Dark mode for OLED display ( Only for select devices ).
Did you know that Dark mode can save huge chunks of battery in devices that come with an OLED display? This only works on models which are packed with OLED panels. Here’s how to turn it on.
Turn on Dark Mode.
- Open settings
- Go to Display & Brightness
- Then enable dark mode. That’s it.
9. Turn off Bluetooth when not in use.
Bluetooth consumes a decent amount of power, turning Bluetooth off when not in use can get you more screen-on-time.
Here’s how to do it.
- Go to settings
- Tap on Bluetooth
- And just disable it.
*Note: When you turn off Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/Mobile Data from the swipe-up control center it actually puts it in sleep mode, iPhone switches on these settings after a period of time. To fully disable Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/Personal hotspot/Mobile Data follow the steps mentioned above.
10. Disable Raise to Wake up.
It is a very basic feature that lights up the screen when you lift your phone. You can save battery by disabling this feature if you can compromise by pressing the power button every time you lift your device.
Here’s how to do it.
- Open settings
- Scroll down and select ‘Display & Brightness
- There if your scroll down, you’ll see the raise to wake toggle, make sure you disable it.
Fix Battery drain
If you’ve been facing a high battery drain issue on your iPhone, then here’s the solution.
Most of the time iOS battery draining is just because of a faulty or buggy os update. In such cases, such problems could be worse if not looked upon, such as excessive battery wear and tear within just a month. Here’s what you can do to fix it. If you are losing more than 3% of battery health in 30 days then it could be a prominent symptom.
Take a full backup of your iPhone by iTunes/iCloud Backup, and factory reset your device clearing data. This often clears out bugs which show up after an update. Or you can wait for the next update from apple to fix the issue.
