Have you noticed stuttering in your game? If you also like to keep an eye on your FPS counter and you’ve noticed decent FPS while playing, then most probably the stuttering doesn’t mean you have a weak system. In most cases, this happens if you are running on low RAM or if you have a 60Hz display. Even after you’ve turned on V-Sync, chances are your game might still stutter, it generally doesn’t sync with your display. Luckily, you’ve landed on the right article, as this could totally solve your problem. If you’ve noticed high frame rates and sudden frame drops, that could be happening for a 60hz display or low RAM.

How to Fix the stuttering? (For 8GB RAM or less)
If you notice, your system generally reserves a certain amount of Disk memory as virtual RAM, technically that’s not RAM but acts like one when your discrete RAM reaches its limit. That’s called Pagefile. Generally, some of the system load is transferred to this slow virtual memory, so that your programs don’t crash. You can try turning off Pagefile to boost your system as all the applications and processes will be in the RAM, but not to forget, some games might crash after you’ve turned it off as many games are specifically designed to run like that if you have less than the recommended amount of RAM. Follow the steps below to try this out.
- Right-click on This PC and click properties.
- Click on the advanced system settings, navigate to the Advanced tab, click on the settings tab under the performance tab.
- Again navigate to the advance tab and click on change under the virtual memory option.
- Tick the No Paging File and click apply, then click OK, restart your system.
- You will notice the performance boost right away.
Alternatively, following the same steps, you can also set a custom paging limit. You can set it to use 8GB of your storage, this also improves performance in many cases if your game crashes after disabling Paging, as mentioned earlier many games such as GTA V will require you to turn on paging. We’d still recommend getting 16GB dual-channel RAM for seamless computing and gaming.
Fix Game Stuttering with RTSS (For 60Hz displays)
If you have a 60hz display, then the best solution you can try out is RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS).
So basically stuttering is very common for 60Hz displays, especially when you have an overpowered system but a limited 60Hz display. RTSS is widely used by gamers to tackle this problem, it forces a specific frame rate which gradually decreases the system load and helps in keeping it stable. It is a frame rate and hardware monitor tool that supports video capture and frame limiting. You can also add specific game executable files by clicking the add option, along with setting a specific frame rate limit.
Download
- After installing, open the application, click on global, and set the frame rate limit to 60.
- Minimize and forget, you may also turn on the option mentioned as “start with windows”, this way you don’t have to manually turn it on always.
