Facebook-owned Instagram has announced the official Instagram Lite app. Just like Facebook, the app will consume less data, is less in size. It also could be the best solution for developing countries. Unlike the Facebook lite app, the trimmed-down version of Instagram will have most of the core functions. The new app will be available in over 170 countries worldwide.

Messaging service will be available on the lite version, along with Instagram Reels. But here’s a restriction, users won’t be able to upload any Reel that they’ve made. The app will need just 2MB of space on your phone, while the size of the primary app is more than 30MB. The lite version of the application was anyway expected, but along with the main services, it might just be the perfect app for people using entry-level smartphones.
The only reason for the app’s development is to deliver the Instagram experience to dirt-cheap entry-level smartphones. Especially talking about developing markets, where more than half of the population still has a slower internet connection which makes it hard for most to access Instagram. The Lite app is reportedly in the testing phase, in countries including India and few others. The Lite app will make it easier for most people to quickly access the app, without worrying about their storage filling up.
