According to the announcement, Airtel will be taking full advantage of Qualcomm’s 5G RAN platforms. The 5G RAN platforms are essential for launching virtualized and Open RAN-based 5G networks throughout the country. Also, the firm will launch FWA (Fixed Wireless Access), which will allow broadband connections at Gigabit speed.

Another popular telecom network provider Reliance Jio, which also happens to be Airtel’s biggest competitor, had already announced a similar partnership with Qualcomm the previous year. According to this, Jio already has a 5G solution and the Carrier provider will launch 5G services by mid-2021. It is really fascinating to see which one of the two firms actually provides the best 5G network service. Also, the bidding for the 5G spectrum will begin in India from 1st March.
